RECYCLING POLICY
Sustainability
Ship Recycling Policy
At Avind International Oy, we have a Strong Commitment to Ensure the Safe, Sustainable and Responsible Recycling of our Ships at the End of their Operational Life.
We recognize our industry’s end-of-life challenges and are committed to promoting the respect for labor and human rights and supporting the welfare of our supply chain partners, including those working at the yards where Avind International Oy ships are recycled. We take recycling into consideration throughout all stages of a ship’s lifecycle – from new buildings to operations to dismantling – and incorporate circular economy principles wherever possible.
Avind International Oy- owned ship reaches the end of its operational life, we seek to make a positive contribution by supporting the local ship recycling industry. In addition to enabling the livelihoods of people working at shipyards, ship recycling-related activities generate local economic growth, with surrounding communities benefiting from local business activity related to the sale of recycled materials. We are also engaging with other stakeholders to improve conditions at shipyards to promote a safe and responsible ship recycling industry, including participation in European Union delegation visits to Alang, India.
We monitor our ships throughout their operational life and conduct annual audits and vetting of shipyards to inform decision-making as our ships approach end-of-life. During the dismantling process, Avind International Oy receives regular reports from the shipyard to ensure safe working conditions and practices, as well as proper waste management and handling of all hazardous materials.
When we recycle, the process is conducted in accordance with the Avind International Oy Ship Recycling Policy, which stipulates the selection of shipyards that are certified compliant with the technical provisions of the Hong Kong Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships. In cases where an “LLP “Eurasia Trans Team Kazakhstan” vessel is sold for further trading, we require that the buyer undertakes safe and environmentally sound recycling practices according to the standards of the Hong Kong Convention.

Our social impact extends beyond our diverse workforce and includes our business partners with whom we work to build a sustainable supply network.

FOSTERING
INCLUSIVE TRADE
Sustainability
Fostering Inclusive trade
Supporting Economic Growth and Building Resilience
The global economy relies on transport and logistics to enable trade, generating growth and social prosperity. Avind International Oy is in a unique position to create value by connecting local communities, facilitating access to a global market and supporting customers through resilient and disruption-free supply chains.
We foster inclusive trade by contributing to economic growth; building resilience across the global value chain; and developing local capacity and know-how.
Fostering inclusive trade pillar 2023.
Creating Value by Connecting the World.
Shipping and logistics are the backbone of global trade, and by creating connections helps secure economies around the world. Our commitment is to enabling trade, connecting local businesses to global markets and supporting economies towards the achievement of sustainable and inclusive growth.
Without resilient supply chains, people cannot access the essential goods they need to really thrive. We are committed to laying the strong foundations needed for future growth, building resilience and reducing inequality by ensuring the safe and timely delivery of critical commodities and medical supplies to communities – particularly at times of crisis.
We are equally focused on securing fragile economies and supporting the equitable distribution of benefits of business and trade. We play a key role in facilitating trade access in remote and vulnerable regions, ensuring the consistent flow of goods across borders and maintaining the market connections on which local businesses depend.
Enhancing Local Industry through Logistics Ecosystems;
We are committed to continuously adapt, innovate, and invest in solutions to manage trade flows and disruptions, ensuring access to essential products and services, and enabling small and medium-sized enterprises in emerging markets to participate in the global trade system.
Where enabling connectivity is vital for national GDP growth – particularly in remote or landlocked countries, which are often confronted with higher shipping costs due to their dependency on imported goods – Avind International Oy focus remains on ensuring secure and reliable links to ports through intermodal solutions and logistics hubs to address today’s increasingly complex and fragmented supply chains.

From Ambition to Action

Enabling Logistics Decarburization
“Avind International Oy” Biofuel Solution
For Zero Impact on the Atmosphere
Avind International Oy, Biofuel Solution is Avind International Oy first certified carbon in setting programmed designed to reduce CO2 emissions along your supply chain and within our own operations. The programmed contributes to accelerating decarburization in the shipping industry. Moving from ambition to concrete action is a “win-win” approach: we bunker sustainable biofuel, and our customers reap the CO2 savings.
As part of our journey to net-zero by 2050, we invite you to join forces to decarbonize your supply chain and achieve your sustainability targets.
Our destination is clear. Let’s navigate our journey to net zero, together.
Avind International Oy, Biofuel Solution is a carbon in setting programmed that delivers CO2 savings achieved within the shipping value chain. Carbon in setting is different to carbon offsetting, which focuses on future emission reductions outside of shipping.
Work with us to reduce the carbon footprint of your supply chain. Together we can play our part in the global energy transition and create more sustainable supply chains.
Enabling Sustainable Supply Chains Using Biofuel;
Avind International Oy, Biofuel Solution delivers CO2 savings by replacing conventional fossil-based fuel with a second-generation bio-component derived from used cooking oil (UCO).
Avind International Oy, has adopted biofuel as a transition fuel in its ocean operations, as it is much more environmentally friendly. We only use biofuel that is responsibly sourced and accompanied by a Proof of Sustainability certification issued by internationally recognized bodies.
Avind International Oy, Bunkers only Responsibly Sourced and Certified Second-Generation Biofuel.
How does it Work;
When you choose Avind International Oy Biofuel Solution – regardless of the cargo’s port of origin or destination – “Avind International Oy” purchases biofuel for use along your journey.
While biofuel is not currently available at all ports, we can still offer CO2 savings along any trade lane or route, as biofuel is bunkered and used across Avind International Oy network. This is known as “Mass Balance Concept” and allows us to deliver emissions savings to customers regardless of the bunkering port, trade lane or route; we simply use the biofuel available within our global maritime network.
The CO2 calculations used for Biofuel Solution are based on latest global emissions guidelines.
The carbon in setting process is externally verified by a third-party provider, DNV, to ensure the accuracy of the CO2 savings transferred to you.
Avind International Oy, also issues a Retirement Statement with the following information that can be used for reporting on the carbon footprint of your supply chain (Scope 3 CO2 emissions):
- CO2 savings transferred to the customer (in tonnes), based on:
- Baseline CO2e emissions for the requested service using conventional marine fuel.
- CO2e emissions for the requested service using sustainable biofuel.
- WTWeq methodology (full CO2e cycle).
- Biofuel specifications and certification.
- Proof of Sustainability issued by the bunker supplier.
- External verification statement (carbon in setting process).
